There are lots of activities and events in town this summer in celebration of Montreal’s 375th birthday. One event in particular peaked our interest so we secured the dog sitter (Thanks Joan!!) and hopped on the metro to explore the Quartier des Spectacles. After a quick bite to eat at Mozza, we arrived at our destination: Parterre-du-Quartier-des-Spectacles.
As we walked around, we noticed people climbing up to different platforms.
Perched at the top of this metal structure were 5 angels.
At 9:40pm a voice came over the loud speaker and asked us all to stand as it would be easier to view the activities. And with that, the music started, the lights came on and the angels began to fly.
The angels criss crossed overhead releasing feathers as they passed over us.
The angels carried the feathers in their costumes…
in their umbrellas.
And in containers.
On another wall, the angels danced in the spotlights creating magnificent shadows.
As the angels moved from one end of the wire to another, they started their decent to earth while other angels gathered in the center of the arena.
These angels dropped down and started to spin all the while releasing theirs feathers.
Off in the distance, a large floating object appeared in the spotlight.
It was a large angel that floated just above the crowd.
That’s when the feathers REALLY started to come down.
In a matter of minutes, the Quartier des spectacles was covered in feathers.
The remaining angels found their way back to earth to celebrate in this wonderful festival.
It was as if the Quartier was covered in snow in the middle of summer. People were throwing “feather” balls, dancing to the music and enjoying this truly magical moment.
If you can go this evening, it is worth the late start. You will never experience anything like this again.
